Wedding Insurance Tip

After this past weekend’s wedding, I needed a physical and mental break, so we were sans blog post yesterday.  But today we’re back and talking about insurance for your wedding.  Prior to this weekend, I was honestly on the fence about whether my brides and grooms needed to get any insurance.  If they really wanted it, sure, go for it, but if they didn’t bring it up, I probably didn’t either.  But this weekend changed how I view it.

The rain stopped by mid-morning and I was thrilled, but then the winds started to pick up.  And REALLY pick up.  We must have had wind gusts of 50+ mph.  The tent had me concerned — so we double and triple secured it.  I never thought mother nature would be the culprit.  A few minutes into the wedding ceremony, a huge wind gust came through and snapped a very large limb off a giant tree that came crashing down on wedding guests.  One guest was rushed to the hospital, and another (the Mother of the Bride) got checked out after falling off a ledge.  Reports are now that the Mother -of-the-Bride fractured both wrists from the fall, and the father of the Maid-of-Honor fractured multiple ribs, two vertebrae and punctured a lung. For about $100, my clients had decided to purchase insurance from the Mansion where the ceremony and reception were being held, “just in case.”  And thank god they did.  There are now mounting medical bills that will need to be covered.

This post isn’t meant to scare any of you.  An occurrence like this happens SO RARELY that you really don’t have to worry.  But I will now recommend to all of my clients that they purchase liability insurance to cover their wedding.  It’s not expensive.  You can use a third party insurance company, or your venue might have this available to you.  For $100, it can give you peace of mind in the off chance that something does happen.  So when you book your venue, just ask them if it’s something you can purchase.

Hoping that our wedding guests will have a quick and speedy recovery!
